Comments:Hi All
My family are part of the Bradbury's in Leeds (although not part of the Porky Joe's Branch!). The family moved up from Shabbington on the Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire border in the 1870s. According to family folklore there were 6 brothers who went separate ways at least 2 or which moved to Yorkshire, and others went to the USA.
In terms of my family I have the following;
Me Francis Mark Bradbury, born Leed 1965
DAD: David Maurice Bradbury, born Leeds (1926-90)
GDAD: Albert Bradbury, born Leeds (1887-1952)
GGDAD: John Bradbury, born Shabbington (1861-1925)
GGGDAD: Henry Bradbury, born Shabbington (1837-post 1901)
GGGGDAD: William Bradbury, born Shabbington (1810?-post 1881)
GGGGGDAD: James Bradbury, born Horspath, OXON (b1774- d b/n1841-51)
GGGGGGDAD: William Bradbury, 1739-1816
GGGGGGGDAD: William Bradbury, 1713-1763
GGGGGGGGDAD!!: John Bradbury 1678-1731
Although the earlier generations come from the LDS website so may be wrong.
Would love to have contact with any other BUCKS derived Bradbury's.

Comments:John, I notice that over at GenForum you were asking about the Knott family a few years back. Along the family line that you previously helped me uncover, three different members of the Knotts family appear to be domiciled with various Bradburys of my line between 1800-1900. We have:
Elizabeth Knott (~1837-1878) m. Richard Bradbury (1834-1875)
Hannah Knott living with Richard & Liz in 1871 UK Census and then Richard's brother William (1846-?) in the 1881 UK Census
Finally, I have a Mathew Knott living with Richard's daughter Annie in the 1881 UK Census.
Do you know anything more about these three - ie. their relationships to each other and lineage? Cheers.

Hi Jim,
If you could let me know when it is working I'd like to post the following:
Hello there Bradburys, Im researching a line that came from one James
Bradbury a bricklayer born in Longden, Staffs. around 1816 He got
married to Mary Ann (nee ?) who was from Armitage. They had a son named
John William who was also a brickie born in Birkinhead around 1847 who
got married to Mary E (nee ?) who was born in Congleton around 1853
these two had lots of kids amongst whom was one George James Bradbury
(also became a brickie) born around 1881 who got married to Florrie (nee
?) They had three kids Elsie, Bertha and John born between 1904 and
190?. Florrie died young and George was killed in Gallipoli in 1915.
Elsie Bradbury married Harry Thorp in 1927 and these two were my
grandparents. If anybody has any information about this line it's be
really welcome. All the best, Sean
Thanks
Sean

Comments:
The name BRADBURY is an old English name and comes from Broad or wide, BURY which was a boarded fortified place, hence a wide wooded fort or castle. This means they lived in or close to a hill fort probably Iron Age. The town BREDBURY near Manchester is where a lot of BRADBURYS come from, the reason is obvious. I live about a mile from CASTLE RING, Cannock Wood which is a n Iron Age fort that consisted of several moats that had a high wooden fence around it and is on a hill that is the highest in Staffordshire. One of the most commonest names in the area around is BRADBURY. My ancestors in the late 1700`s lived within site of the hill and worked for the Marquis of Anglesey who lived at Beaudesert Hall and owned all the land including Castle Ring. So if my ancestors did not originate from that area I will eat my hat.
From this you can see that lots of places in England that had Iron Age type forts may have had BRADBURYS living by them, so may not be related in any way to others from different parts of the country.
Hope this of help to you in doing research. I could be wrong of course. We are all cousins at heart if we share the name.
I run a local herutage group.

Comments: Hello John
I was interested to learn of the site today quite by accident. I was looking for an old Hymn 'Just as I am without one plea' and that it was written by William Bradbury. Well my maiden name is Bradbury and I am the eldest of 9 children one of which is my brother called John!!! ( I am now 60)
Anyway I have always wanted to know something of my predecessors but on seeing your site maybe we are realted in some way who knows.
My father is called Thomas Bradbury and was born in North Staffordshire in 1924 he is still alive and celebrates his 84th birthday in May. Unfortunately not a well travelled man and quite disinterested in his heritage. His father, my grandfather was 84 when he died in Stone, Staffordshire and he died in 1961 making his date of birth 1877.
If you have any information which could help me I would appreciatte it and if you want any further information from me I will try and help
Hope you did not mind me contacting y ou
Kind regards
